Hello everyone.  Noticed this weekend that my 2003 Vw Sharan front screen is loose and coming away from the bonding on top right and left corner.  Anyone come across this problem.  I'm thinking that a new screen is the only way forward as full removal is likely to break.

Eeek thats not good, I assume its been changed before?

Depending on how loose it is then you (or your fitter) should be able to get some wire through and then essentially use it as a cheese wire to slice the remaining glue and get it out without breaking.

You want to get that sorted ASAP not only for water ingress but structural integrity.
I would asssume it has been changed before and either not primed properly or iffy binding adhesive was used?
Known it before for the bonding stuff to be iffy not on a car but a train, after about 7 years the side windows started to be sucked out by passing trains!

Looks like the original screen.  Got genuine ae and part numbers on.  Think i will put some gaffer tape on the top edge and start saving for a possible new screen.

Do you have screen cover on insurance?
As it's loose a wndscreen fitter should be able to get it out in 1 piece and just re-bond original back in.

I have screen cover.  I think I will ring up one of the major screen fitting companies tomorrow and see what they say.  Thanks for replying.

See who your insurance company uses and give them a bell as I think excess is more if you use one not on their list.

Had another look today and its loose on both bottom corners.  Also with the radio off you can hear the screen moving.  My dilema is its not covered by insurance, if it was to crack then it would and it would cost me  Ã,£75 excess for a new screen.

they do crack quite easily with a hammer!!

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

As above put a crack in it,flex it where it is loose and it should develop a crack quite easily.

Thirded.  Use a punch, so that there is no hammer mark.  I was advised to do this by a representative of a well-known glass refurbisher when my screen started to delaminate.

Screens done.  So much quieter to drive.  Screen fitter couldn't believe how loose it was.
