limp home mode?

Galaxy Mk 2 auto appears to be stuck in limp home mode, engine is running fine, but gears default to 3rd. 12&3 work by manual selection.
Must add, I am 1,000 miles from vehicle and trying to advise family member who is with the car....

A local garage did a scan, and got
01314 Engine ECU no communication
00777 - throttle pedal positioning sensor
00529 RPM info missing
00545 Engine/transmission Electrical connection open short circuit.

Since the car has 2.3 Ford engine am I correct in thinking that the first three codes may be dubious because of the Ford engine/vw code reading conflict? (these appear VW codes and not Ford ones)

Car was running fine 3 days ago, so i'm wondering if the last code is the place to start? Any known weak points?

Thanks for any advice for a newbie!

They really need to clear the codes and see what comes back. Depends what reader the garage are using as to if it can talk to the vw ecu or not, os it a ford dealer?
03 Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDI 115 Ghia in Spruce Green Metallic
With cream leather interior, Full Bodykit, Remapped at 145bhp, Lowered on 18's
17 Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 V6 Diesel in Slate Blue
262Bhp AWD and Factory fresh...for now!
58 Ford Transit 2.2 TDI 115 in Frozen White
With retrofitted everything except another slidey door! :)
LAUNCH X431 Pad PRO - Scanning & Coding for all makes and models done in Wiltshire in exchange for winegums! :)

I have the exact same engine and automatic, with the same faults. How did you fix this?
I can reset the codes and sometimes I can drive for weeks and sometimes only 1/2 a day. It alwayse happens after the car will not start. Soemthing wrong with the ECM?

I'd suspect this one is more likely the problem
00545 Engine/transmission Electrical connection open short circuit.

The others as said above may be down to using vcds or similar to read codes, which won't talk to the Ford engine ecu (so can't communicate with it etc)

I'd suggest clear the codes, and check again which come back straight away, then see what appears once limp mode appears. The ones that appear with limp mode are more likely your issue.

I have a 2.3, but its not an auto so doubt I'd be able to check anything useful unfortunately.

Given the op was last seen on here in 2012, I doubt you will get a response from them.
