what is fault code p1347

hi, can anybody tell me what fault code p1347 is? my check engine light came on and a little bit of power has gone!?

Camshaft position sensor bank 2. Have a check for timing chain wear as it's quite common on the vr6 lump.

Just thought also check cam sensors are secure the bolts have been known to work loose.

On the timing cover at the top little black square things.

Parts diagram only shows one sensor (no. 28) though it shows the opening in the timing chain cover for the second sensor as well so it's just not a very clear diagram. It gives you an idea of the approximate location anyway.

hi, found sensors and tightened them, they were not loose but they were not tight, so I turned the screw about two revs. hopefully there is no torque setting for them??? seems to be working fine after a reset! thanks again

I would assume they are m5 or m6 thread so will not be too tight 10-15nm i would think. A nip up with socket should suffice.
If fault has gone I would probably have bolt out and loctite back in place to prevent further issues of coming loose.

Hi, lost more power, mpg gone up! and got check engine light! don't know what to do?! should I replace sensors? if so what one is bank 2 sensor, as the fault code reader said? there are 2 sensor at top of engine! many thanks T

Has it come up with the same fault code again?

If so before replacing sensors I would time the crankshaft up and make sure camshafts are in correct position to eliminate chain stretch,also check the sensor pick up on camshaft is in correct position and lining up with sensor when engine is timed up. The pick up on end of cams can move/break up with age.

yeah same code again but only using the torque app with a elm obd Bluetooth devise! sounds complicated, can you brake it down for me! where do I start? I know how to check the sensor but im not sure how to time it without going in the engine? many thanks T

There's a bit of discussion r.e timing chains etc and a link to the 2.8 V6 here (just be aware that the engine in the link is an earlier 12 valve V6, not the later 24 valve as fitted to the Mk2 Galaxies, Sharans and Alhambras). I don't know enough about the VR6 to know how the cylinder banks are numbered though.

What did you do? Replace just one or both of the camshaft position sensors? And did you work out which bank of cylinders bank 2 was?

yeah bank 2 is the back row cam and bank 1 the front. I think a general rule is bank 1 is where spark fire order 1 is! so I pulled out bank 2 (the crap one) sensor and put it in the bank 1 slot and hoped I got a different code and.........I did p1340 which is bank 1 sensor out of sequence. so it must be that sensor!!! but get this..........is the sensor at fault or it might be the one and only that works!!!  that's why I love mechanics, ill let you know then my multi metre come in the post. thanks T
