Hi,

I got a 2002 automatic 1.9 diesel sharan, 115hp.

Hi, is there any idea for this faults?
1. Start the car, and I can push the gas into the floor, the max I can get it's 40mph and max 2500 rpm.
I stop it and restart and everything is fine, the power is back.
It does it sometimes, someone says its a sensor error, someone says the turbo stucked because of the city usage (2x6mile per day), someone says it's the cheaper diesel.

2. Sometimes the gearbox change quite roughly between first and second gear (feels like someone starts to tow the car), it does it maybe 1-2 times per week, but the other gears are fine.

And any idea for a fading computer display? If it stays on the sun it will fade out slowly.

Thanks :)
Thomas

Welcome!

1) Most likely sticking turbo vanes, very common if you do town miles and even more common with an auto.

2) Oil breaking down, get the gearbox oil changed as a matter of urgency because this normally goes on to cause solenoid sticking.

3) LCD ribbon cable delamination. The heat expands the ribbon and makes the connections either make or break depending on the mode of failure. If you are well skilled in soldering then you can replace the screen but it's far from easy and requires a steady hand! Replace the cluster is probably easier!

Hi,

Thanks!

1. What can I do with them?

2. The mechanic changed the oil last year, but I will take the car into a gearbox garage in the nex two weeks.

3. Can you tell me the VAG code for the cluster? My hands are pretty big for soldering :)

With sticky vanes you can either remove turbo, strip and clean the internals up (see ref library for guide)

You can try freeing the VNT arm with a spanner to get it moving then perform an Italian tune up see if that gets it working again.

Or the good old mr muscle truck can get you up and running again but that can only be temporary, first time I did mine they clogged again but due to time constraints I did another dose which has been fine for approaching a year now. I do however get the car off the mrs quite regularly to give it a blast down motorway for 15-30 minutes sitting at 70 in 5th t keep engine rpm up so exhaust temp rises burning any built up crap off.
