Removing Fuel Tank MKII TDI

I cant find my copy of TIS and need to remove my fuel tank to gain access to do some welding for the mot.  Can everything be done from below or is it how I vaguely recollect that  there is a hatch under the carpet which needs accessing to make disconnections?

No idea about tank mounting etc but there is a hatch under the carpet on offside by second row passengers feet. I think it can be accessed by pulling carpet back then removing a metal bracket/plate to access the cover over floor which then reveals the pump/sender unit so it can be disconnected.

Have you seen/ taken a read of this? You could probably do it all from underneath including the lift pump connector and fuel lines once the tank is dropped a bit, but aside from the faff of having to partly lift the rear carpet in order to access the top hatch, personally I'd find it preferable to disconnect that lot with the tank still fully supported rather than when the whole tank is dangling! Your call really.

Thanks, the tanks is very nearly empty so not much weight there at all, I'm going to see about doing it underneath, the bit I'm having an issue with at the moment is the filler neck where it enters the tank, does it just pull out?

When you drop the tank the filler pipe has enough flexi built in that it comes down enough to get to the clip holding the pipe to the tank. DON'T yank on the pipe though as its a faff if you inadvertantly disconnect it up near the cap!

Thanks its out now and disconnected lower down, all done from under neath.
