Strut mount recommendation

Had a squeak that have finally tracked to the strut mount on passenger front
After recommendations for makes to use and avoid
Am going to replace both sides and bearing
Tps quoted 50 all in not sure on make but I know this is who vw use
Seen a set on eBay by meyle for just under 30
Any help suggestions much appreciated

Seen posts about people having issues after changing strut mounts due to clearance between body and strut,seems the general opinion is to go with OE parts from what I remember

Cheers as I understand it's a bit of a common problem was hoping someone could recommend a make
Vw pointed me to Tps as I belive it's their parts arm in Liverpool could be wrong so I assume these will be oe parts as the last part I got off them had the groups badges all over them

Personally if I wasn't buying genuine I'd probably go for the Sachs or Lemforder parts as shown here, they're almost worryingly cheap though! There's also a TRW kit on the next page but it's quite a bit more expensive. I have just ordered some parts from these guys and they arrived all as ordered with no problems, only thing is they're shipped from Germany so it takes a few days.

I thought TPS was all genuine VW stuff, only thing is 'officially' I thought they were only supposed to sell into the trade!

Cheers I seen a Sachs kit for 30 for both sides and as Tps and ford only want 50 I may go original as the labour only costs me a drink and lunch
Maybe then I can move on to air con for sumer and the booster heater for winter ha
Just a couple of jobs to do

I've gone OE price was ok.
Think your labour cost of lunch may run into dinner and breakfast!
I have done one side on mine and had to junior hacksaw the "cup" off then pull the remaining mess through the appurture (replacing whole strut and spring as is worn out)
I bought the cups, nuts, bearing mount oh and don't forget the hub bolt change if the whole leg is coming off....(single use apparently)

I just recently did mine, I used eurocar parts ones, about Ã,£11 each.  Soaked the nut for about a week before hand with plus gas and then used an air impact wrench which whizzed both sides of nicely.

Having remove the nut, cup and drop link, the leg drops enough to remove the old bush, I then found you can  lift the leg back up against the hole with a trolley jack compressing the spring and poking the bearing nut up the the strut mount hole, undo the bearing nut replace bearing and zip it back up again.  About 45 minutes a side after removing the wiper linkage for access.

No they seemed to fit fine, how long they last though is another matter.

Just curious about how that worked- from working in the bulkhead area previously I don't recall there being much clearance vertically onto the strut top nuts to get an impact gun in there as the windscreen/ scuttle was in the way?

There's not, it went impact wrench, long extension, short extension, universal joint, socket [emoji106]

I also ordered from them recently (for the first time) and had loads of communication, including a phone call, apparently to check that I was a genuine customer.  Odd; but the stuff arrived PDQ afterwards.

My order took about 4 working days from date of order I think. Good comprehensive range of parts from numerous manufacturers from budget to premium, the only thing is I found the website not as easy to navigate as some because e.g, if you wanted to look at springs or brake discs, you can't filter by front or rear fitment, though you can filter by manufacturer.

Yes - and I've just discovered that the Brembo discs I ordered don't have the hole for the securing screw, even though they were in the list for my vehicle.  Everything else is fine, though, so on they go..........

Nothing worse than ordering parts, waiting for them to arrive and then discovering they're not correct especially if they've been shipped from overseas! At least with the likes of Euro you can take 'em back if they're no good! Which is what I'm going to try to do with those rear Sachs springs I ordered for the Mk2 Gal, I enquired to ZF, Sachs' parent company about what exactly the springs I was supplied were meant to fit and their reply was not very helpful to say the least.
