So trundling home from work yesterday I braked from 70 to a standstill and noticed some vibration on the steering wheel. First thoughts were warped disk but when it continued for the next 2 miles during non braking I realised it was something else. Pulled onto the drive and could immediately "feel" the problem as I checked each corner the heat hit me...

The calliper still floats normally once it had cooled so guess it's corrosion on the piston... boo!

Is that one of the rears? When my offside rear brake started binding back in September I noticed the heat from mine when I was refueling (it was that that drew my attention to the fact that it had started to bind as nothing was apparent whilst driving). There were sellers on good ol' [eBay] selling TRW calipers (basically lucas units) for 50-60 quid, that's what I ended up replacing mine with.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

dear Mark..it is winter and car wants to treat and pay you back to keeps you cozy  ;)
had front sticky driver side caliper 2 weeks ago.. disc was very hot ..managed to diy repair for that rusty piston..working fine the now.

No that's drivers front, had slide pins out today and they are still as free as when I installed them so deffo something going on with the caliper itself.

On the plus I have an arsenal of parts available so can fit the front calipers, disks and pads from the Sharan  whilst I take these off for refurbishment.

Certainly feels that way! The tensioner pulley for the Auxillary belt started chattering last week so that's another job to be done.

I changed my tensioner when the belt started to squeal/ judder under load, at least they're not too expensive and easy to fit.

Have you come across many of these with binding front calipers? It's more commonly the rears that give trouble isn't it due to the rotating pistons and the handbrake mechanism, the fronts are simpler in comparison.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

Had exactly same with one of the rears on my x type not quite as hot as that though!!
Also had the tensioner issue that was duly resolved with the one you supplied me👍 All sweet as a nut now.

No as above its normally the rears that gum up, this is the first I've known to do this but I have heard similar stories on the T5 forums so maybe the brake 'upgade' I did wasnt such an upgrade lol!
