Auxillery heater outside sensor

Hi all
Re the ambient temp sensor on the very late mk2 did I read there is a difference between earlier models switching and the later ones ? Something like early 10 deg C and later 5 deg C ? Or have I made that up and if not do I have it correct ?
I trailed through with the search and am damned if I can find it and the Haynes manual I have is w*ank

from what i remember,the mk1 came on at 5 degrees and the mk2 around 10 degrees.
is that what your remembering hence the confusion?

Hi, it is possible to remove the ambient temperature switch, which is located on the wiper arm mechanism, and run a wire into the cabin to a switch. This allows you to be in control of when you put the auxillay heater on, both to warm the car up or to test when its warmer weather above 10 deg c.

Yes a lot of members have already done this, use an illuminated switch in preference to warn you that the power is applied.

Hi, even if the switch is not illuminated you will know if its on, if it works you will hear it.

Yes you will hear it but one of the biggest problems with these heaters is short run times, stop and start journeys are not good especially runs only lasting a few minutes that don't allow the heater to run at full speed to burn off excess fuel.
If your going to go to the trouble of fitting a switch and then leaving it switched on sort of defeats the object of avoiding an unnecessary start for the heater.
That's just my view on it.

Any suggestions on where to run such a wire, please?  Especially getting it through the bulkhead.

I connected my 3 wires up by ecu then ran in to cabin through a grommet on bulkhead passenger side then round to the centre dash area. I traced wires  back to ecu harness and soldered them in but you can just connect to existing temp switch plug.
Depending what switch you use you may need either 2 or 3 wires. Straight switch will be 2 illuminated will be 3 as it needs an earth.
I had existing rocker switch spare so used that but also linked in a small led that I fitted under switch to illuminate when it is on.

Hi, if you have any of the six full size switch spaces balnked off (the ones either side of the radio), you could get a spare switch off ebay. I used another hazard warning switch, and wired this to turn on/off my auxillary heater. This switch can also be wired to illuminate when switched on.

Another question on the same circuit
Where abouts is relay K272 which is mentioned on the auxiliary heater information sheet that I found on this site. Just checking it is under the fuses in the cabin drivers side or is it else where ? Also is  it the same relay through all the mk 1 and 2's

Don't think it's used on MK1 it's certainly not on all models of MK2
Below is a pic of my MK2 second layer, if you have one it shares slot 10, two grey colour relays the first one for the horn the second being K272

Are these the only picture in the fusebox on driver side? My relay look totally different. It is a 58 plate sharan.

Looks the same to me, there are three layers to the fuse box/relays but you may have some relays with different numbers on them.
why do you need to get to the relays?

1: I want to check the relay of the aux heater, to see if it is triggering or not.

2: For my car is the ambient sensor around the wiper? I found near the Aircon radiator. Does mk2 have two sensors for temperature? Any picture to share the location please.

Boost heater does not have a relay it is controlled via input from ambient switch and engine ecu.

The location of the temp sensor is covered and a link to a picture of it can be found here. The sensor located behind the bumper near the radiator is the ambient air temp sensor used for the climate control panel/ temp readout in the instrument cluster.
