hi i get a knocking noise on the osf (i think) when under load when i turn left  the os drive shaft has a little play but not alot drop links are new and everything seems tight bush wise.

any ideas

The inner CV joint is the one you need to take a look at, but it floats in and out so you'll need the car turned to the left to put the joint where it would be when you hear the noise.

right i checked both drive shafts and there is not much side to side movement 5mm if that, could the wheel rub on th inner rail if the bushes are worn? there looks to be some marks one the in side im going to rub some chalk or wax crayon on the area tomorrow and go for a drive then see if its rubbed off.

5mm sounds about right :) Not following "the inner rail" could you clarify that please?

Ohh I see, hell I hope not!! Possibly on full lock you may get a little rubbing with incorrect tyres on but you'd need a major suspension failure for that to happen so it would be very obvious I would have thought!!

yes i suppose it would, whats the correct tyre size on a standard alloy

205/60/15 if you have 15' wheels,
215/55/16 if you have 16' wheels.

215/55/16 are fitted all round the fronts sit proud of the rim about 10 mm, i think there must be play in the ball joint or bottom wishbone just enough to rub inside (this must have developed over the last 700 miles) im going to swap the rims round front to back to see if this cures it!!

Are you sure its a standard alloy? It would be unusual for any contact to be made by a failing suspension component - there is normally ample tolerance in clearance to allow for near total destruction in suspension components without body contact on a standard setup.

Are we saying that the inner edge (sidewall) of the tyre is rubbing on the chassis if it is how much gap is there on the opposite wheel.
If there is a larger gap on the other side it's likely the track rod ends are not centralized on the rack, even though the tracking may be correct.

standard ghia alloys and the rubbing/knocking has only just started in the last 700 miles

sorted worn ball joint and poor quality tyres/tracking now just heater issue now!! :( :(

Sounds to me like a ball joint issue. Replace that first then if it still does it itââ,¬â,,¢s your inner cv

Why are you replying to a post from 2012 in 2019?

Others might have a similar problem and I didn't see that it was from 2012
