Sorry to bore everyone with more x type posts.

It's safe to say taking gearbox out on the deck on your own is hard going after so long away from the motor trade, but despite subframe issues it's now out.  Although it appears the seller was a bit economical with the truth about the recent clutch change,it appears the pressure and friction plates were changed but not DMF or CSC.
The DMF has about 7mm of movement and the release bearing is rough and noisy, strange thing is I had no vibrations or noises so was anticipating just box out and replacement back in!
So brand new LUK 4 piece kit on the way for Ã,£275 delivered which I don't think is bad.
But after doing this it's safe to say my mates 07 mondeo will only be having one side of subframe dropped and box rested on it to change as the subframe has been the most tricky on mine.

Yeah I can't imagine gearbox out jobs requiring subframe removal are much fun at the best of times, let alone on a driveway at this time of year! Not quite so bad if you've got an assistant but even so....... I imagine dropping the transmission out of the Galaxy would be a laugh....... not.  LOL

Some serious hard graft that's for sure only half way through it aswell until I get the bits.
Although this piece of kit helped out with dropping the box.

Is that a special adapter you can get to suit most trolley jacks or is it a special fitment that you need a specific jack for?

It is made for trolley jacks with 30mm saddle pads, but only Ines I have like that were unstable with a box on it. I bolted it to my big jack with the 30mm saddle off my cheap jack and it worked fine. You do need the car up high mind to get clearance but I used just to take initial weight then extracted it through the wheel arch area.

Something for any potential driveway mechanic to consider getting then if they plan on dropping many gearboxes. The sloped wings of the Galaxy preclude the use of standard engine brace bars unfortunately (not that that's a concern for the vehicle you're working on).
