Humm, well last year I had the opportunity to buy a brand new Eberspacher D5WZ for next to nothing which I took and fitted it to the Galaxy in August 2011. The car was laid up for most of the winter as it wasn't being used and I would guess the heater did a total of about 12 hours use - well today it failed to start, repeated flame out. FFS! You have to wonder about just why this heater is so unreliable, is it the heater itself or the way its deployed in the Galaxy???

I think there is a issue with the pick up pipe and shape of tank,  have noticed with both MK1 & 2 when facing downhill unit will draw air if tank is below a third full and fuel starvation will give a flame out error.
Always best to park on level or uphill to avoid.
So as you rightly say the way it's deployed in the galaxy is not ideal.
Incidently the new one I purchased is now entering it's sixth season (tempting fate)

Nearly all modern diesels do but don't worry, when they fail nobodies the wiser lol ;)

Well new plug sorted the problem, found the cause for why its not working properly - its been arc'ing out due to a damaged insulator. Since this is a new heater its from the factory like this! Interestingly it only threw flame out codes and not open/short circuit codes. You can see how "old" the plug looks lol! I'm debating if it can be salvaged for a spare with a decent insulating washer now :)
