Replacing rear light cluster on 05 Alhambra

Hi,

I've just joined as I've just got an 05 plate Alhambra and need to replace a cracked tail light cluster.

I've found the three nuts behind the lights and the screw under the trim panel below, but the bumper bracket still seems to be in the way. Am I missing something? I don't want to blindly fiddle around and break the bracket. Also, how does the plastic rivet come out?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Neil...

Welcome!

Ahh yeah, in VW's infinate wisdom they fit the rear lights first and then the bumper over the top. You need to remove the bumper to remove the light unit :(

Fortunately you can get away with just loosening off the side you are doing before sliding out and down that side of the bumper. Just be carefull with that bracket as they break reasonably easily!

Which plastic rivet are you talking about?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid of that, not quite the 5 minute job I assumed it would be!

There is what looks like a black plastic rivet / clip under the trim panel at the side of the light unit. I assume it can be prized out with a screwdriver.

Cheers,

The trim panel is supposed to slide into that before clipping into place you dont want to remove it.

There is a centre "pin" to those clips which you have to push through to allow it to then pull out. Its a one use only clip but as above, you shouldn't need to remove it.
