Rear luggage cover

Hi guys, my mk2 galaxy does not have a rear luggage load cover and I want to get one. Has anybody fitted one and what do I need to do it?

I've fitted one in the past, it wasn't that tricky to do - I take it you don't have the mountings in place for the carrier?

No brackets fitted but I have the two mounting ones and the rear hook ones loose and the cover that I got off eBay

Ahh ok, well that's a good start

You'll need to take both of the rear side cards off to start with, on the back you'll find there are markings where the plastic pieces will sit - these need to be cut out extremely carefully with a sharp Stanley knife. Cut well inside the markings as they seem to be just a guide rather then exact, I cut about 2mm inside and the plastic panel only just covers!

To mount the rear hooks you need to cut a small section out of the card to allow the plastic to sit smoothly - they have two or three studs that will need holes drilled and then a plastic nut fitted to hold it in place (FINIS 7386488 @ around 40p).

The front mount plastic is slightly more involved. Cut the section out of the card so the plastic sits flush - you'll then need to fit the metal carrier either side so it can all bolt up. This is riveted in place, so you'll need a rivet gun and the two brackets: LH: 1051362 and RH: 1051363 @ about Ã,£22 each

All in all, its quite easy although takes quite a lot of time to take everything out and put it all back When you do it, please take photo's! We can then write a how-to for future users.

I do have a rivet gun, so that's a start. So there is an internal bracket required for each side? Anybody got any going spare lol. I will be able to make these brackets at home if I had some drawings

These part numbers that you have supplied are they ford for for another company supplying ford parts?

Nope, they are Ford FINIS codes - any dealer will be able to order them

The Internal bracket is on both sides at the front mounting points, the image above is the best I can do for you sorry!

Ok just have to source the internal brackets then all systems go. I will take a step by step photo diary but brackets first Ã,£44 is a lot so scrap yard hunting will be my best option

Good news everyone!

i have been to a VW dealer, parts department today and orderd the much needed retainer brackets.

part no, 7m3868795 lh and 7m3868796 rh at Ã,£5.28 each
just got to wait three days then i can start.

i did ask the question why they are cheeper from VW than ford. and they said that ford have to buy parts from VW and put there markup on to sell. is this right?

The Mk1 & 2 Galaxy's are probably about 90% VAG components so yes, you'll typically find VW are significantly cheaper then Ford for parts. There must be some internal brand pricing as well because you'll find SEAT are generally a little bit cheaper again

Got all the parts now, just need to know how to remove the internal rear 1/4s so I don't break anything? I might fit this tomorrow if my call outs are quiet.

2nd and 3rd row seatbelts unscrewed, C and D pillar plastics off, tailgate seal off, long tailgate lock panel (black or chrome) off, plastic screw things at the bottom of each panel off, drivers side two screws in the stowage box out, lift the panel up and out (its got clips below the 3rd windows)

Took two hours and job done! Only thing is a have blue brackets on grey interior but never mind.

I took loads of photos, and where do I send them?

Excellent, there is/was a sharan in my local scrappy with a grey interior and the plastic. I'm going on Wednesday so if they are there I'll grab them if you want?

Fitted the brackets and plastic pieces today, all went well albeit a few interruptions with neighbours asking questions borrowing tools etc, end result took me four hours
