hi all, can anyone shed some light on a little problem I'm having with my 2.0 diesel galaxy?

Its intermittent but has done it 4 times now although i havnt been able to distinguish a patten but basically when accellerating hard to overtake something there is a shudder and then all power is lost and the malfunction light in the dashboard comes on. If i restart the car the malfunction light is out and the car drives normally again. Sometimes this happens and sometimes not but its really scary when it does it and we nearly had a crash last night whilst trying to overtake a tractor as couldnt get past with a lorry coming the other way  ??? ???

When the malfunction light is it still drives but is really slow?

Ford have looked at it and said there are no error codes and they cant reproduce the fault, that'll be Ã,£150 please.  [bash]

Has anyone got any idea on what it might be or where we can go to fix this?

Greetings!  [W4]

I'm very surprised that the engine management was able to detect a fault and illuminate a malfunction lamp but not (according to the Ford dealer) log a fault code, that doesn't sound at all right to me. Which malfunction light is coming on? It might almost be worth going back to the dealer who supposedly couldn't find any fault codes and say to them that you've paid them Ã,£150 for nothing in effect and been left none the wiser, and how can the vehicle illuminate a malfunction lamp yet register no fault code?

Were all other electrical systems in the vehicle normal when the fault occurred (i.e, you didn't lose any other electrical systems)? The fault you describe could be down to a number of things from an intermittent fault with a sensor to problems with turbo actuation control, EGR valve etc. The trouble is, you need a starting point. As it's happening under acceleration when you need power I'd be thinking possibly an issue with turbo actuation or a related sensor (such as MAP- manifold pressure), or defective accelerator pedal sensors but in reality it could be numerous other things as well.

P.S, if it's a 2014 vehicle shouldn't it still be covered by Ford's 3 year warranty or has it done too many miles, or have Ford changed their warranty policy?
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

Don't know why it wouldn't log a fault if light come on,as above I would be going back to dealer asking for money back.

Not a 2.0 but my tranny connect did similar turned out when under acceleration the smart charging was banging 19v in to battery causing havoc with the EDC.

Hi,

I know it's a completely different car but thought it worth a mention.
Our previous car was a 2.2 petrol Vauxhall Zafira with an auto gearbox and we had an identical sounding fault which turned out to be the fuel pump.
Occasionally when accelerating hard there would be a big jolt sometimes followed by the car going into limp mode and the engine management light coming on. It went to the dealers several times without any error codes being logged but on the final visit it did log a code pointing to the fuel pump. The pump was replaced and the fault never came back.

@johnnyroper did that log a code?

I spoke to Ford again today and they will scan the car again for free if the car shows the fault again. Thanks for telling me to ring them as wouldnt have done that else

@insanitybeard unfortunately its an ex taxi with 152 thousand miles so no warranty left

I don't know about it logging a code as vehicle was a lease so I just dropped it off and told them what was happening, after 5 weeks in Trowbridge ford I picked up again and got told what the cause was.

Well I had a recon turbo fitted at the local garage and it seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the help! xx

Search for "Mr Muscle" and "Turbo" in various car forums.  This might save you the cost of a replacement turbo next time.
