Hi Chaps I'm going to service the wife's Galaxy would anyone have an idea what size socket the oil filter housing has, the engine is a 2.2 durateq.  I have tried a search and looking on Fleabay and it looks like a 36mm socket but didn't want to buy one just in case, any help will be much appreciated. Cheers 8-)

I don't have experience of your particular engine but I do know that some earlier Fords (such as the 2 litre TDCI engines fitted to the Mk3 Mondeo and Transit) used 36mm headed oil filter covers, so it is a used size.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

My previous MK3 Mondeo also used a 36mm socket, 2.0 TDCi 130hp from 2005.. (this is a Ford engine)
But.... like the MK4 Mondeo i think the 2.2 tdci in MK3 Galaxy would be French, from PSA and not a Ford engine, from what i know the 1.8 is the only diesel engine made by Ford them selves, and also all of the petrol engines will be Ford ones..

Hi Counsy, I have the 2.2 and its a 27mm deep 1/2" socket that you need with a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter to fit a bendy 3/8" Ratchet got mine from Halfords about Ã,£20 this works well for me, believe me trying to use standard ratchet and socket is a real pain, good luck Dave

Ah right, 27mm, the same size as the oil filter caps also fitted to the 1.4 and 1.6 TDCI engines- also Peugeot units.

Brilliant. Thanks guys for your help and Dave your help is appreciated. I have bought a socket  and going to service the old girl on the weekend. 👍
