Looking at viewing an 05 galaxy pd130 180,000 miles.
Owner says it may need new battery and he has it charging every weekend as it's Barely used. I've read about the fuse box melting so I'll check that.  If it is melted would the car still drive with him charging it at the weekend. Would it drive with dodgy alternator and die when I get it home?

Thanks

How far is home?

It could be the alternator cable or could also be a short in the door wiring. Equaly. it could also just be a battery thats at the end of its life.

50 miles. Like you say could genuinely just need a battery. If it is melted I probably won't buy it, I'm hoping it's been done. Is there any easy way to check alternator is OK? Are they expensive to be replaced

Thanks

Stick a multi meter across battery terminals and put all electrics on, wanna be seeing 14 plus volts. Even on a fully charged battery if alternator was not working car would flash up alternator/workshop message.
If battery was fully charged and you had engine running with no warnings on dash and 14v at battery terminals I would drive it back 50 miles.

Don't rule out car if the alternator cable in battery fuse box is melted and corroded it's a fairly easy fix.

Thanks for your help. Really appreciated
