mk2 auto gear Box

I have a couple of issues that may be linked. On odd occasions when starting up the engine revs up and then dies back to normal. But it doesn't do it every time.

The other is again intermittent - when driving along usually when cold, it will change gear with a huge clonk - I think between 2nd to 3rd although it might be 3rd to 4th. The car runs fine apart from that - it does a regular 120 miles a week and has no other issues. Any advice?

Always worth oil and filter change initially for auto box issues but have a look at this guide as this could also be useful.
