Hi All i have a 2004 1.9 tdi Galaxy with 90,000 she pulls fine but around 40 mph i can feel a vibration from the back end , there is no vibration from the steering wheel and i have had all 4 wheels balanced , it seams to be there around 40 and under load , have any of you got any ideas , thanks for reading ,

[W4]  How is the vibration detectable to make you think it's coming from the rear? If you can feel it at 40mph is that regardless of whether you're under power or coasting?

Hi the vibration is when she is under power ,it feels at the back end there is no vibration through the steering wheel and it comes in around 30 mph and goes over 40 , the stop and start points ( 30 to 40) have got me stumped .

Being that you're feeling it under power my first thought would be that it's related to the driven wheels, CV joints (especially inners) on these are known for causing vibration under power when they start to wear, I don't know how detectable it is through the steering wheel though, I think it varies with the amount of wear that's occurred. If it's definitely not to do with that and it is from the back then you need to be looking at wheel bearings, trailing arm bushes and rear suspension components in general for wear, damage and security.

So a bit more info the front and rear wheels have been swaped over and the balance have been checked all ok .

Is the vibration in any gear at 30-40... I.e does engine speed have any effect on it?

I have removed the rear left damper and its shot ,so i am going to replace the pair and hope this will fix  the vibration. Thanks  for all the help if this does not fix it i will be back. Thanks again

If it's totally shot it will cause a vibration as wheel will be bouncing.
