Hi I have a 2010 petrol auto 2.0L 200bhp Ecoboost. It has 70k on the clock. The gear changing isn't the smoothest in the world but what mostly worries me is when coming to a stop at a junction the last gear change down goes with a bang and feels like you have just hit something. This is intermittent but seems to improve when the engineer hasn't warmed up.
From what I can gather from other threads I suspect an oil and filter change may help. I have no problem getting this done however the change downs can be quite aggressive sometimes I wonder the problem might be more serious than this.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ooops !
I meant to say 'when the engine has warmed up' and not 'when the engineer hasn't warned up'.

Hi,

I have a 2013 2.0 Diesel Galaxy with Powershift gearbox which started to play up when the car was two and a half years old having done around 25k miles. In my case the car would judder between 1500 & 1800rpm when changing up into 2nd and 3rd gear if there was any load on the engine.
During diagnostics Ford did run through a process where they re-calibrated the clutches and forks which is supposed to help adjust things as the gearbox components wear. I don't know what the re-calibration process is or whether yours is a powershift but it might be worth looking into.
In my case the re-calibration only made a slight improvement and in the end the clutch pack was replaced along with gearbox oil and filter. I don't know how much all that cost because it was done under warranty but Ford did mention the gearbox oil & filter change alone is around Ã,£300!
I believe on a powershift they recommend changing the gearbox oil and filter every 3 years/37500 miles so if yours has done 70k miles it might be due its 2nd change.

Hi,

Yes it is a Powershift. I think your right looks like I will have to start with an oil/filter change and see what difference that makes.

Thanks

I have got a Powershift with similar problems with jerky changes, but not the banging when coming to a halt.  I have spoken to some gearbox specialists and they say that the issues start as the clutch degrades and starts to break up, contaminating the oil.  Swapping the oil and filter will often make things better for a while before more of the clutch breaks up, in which case it will need to be replaced.  The oil/filter swap is about Ã,£270 on a Powershift.  The replacement clutch unit is Ã,£900 plus fitting, I have been quoted Ã,£1800 for the job.

Indeed.  Not to be too pessimistic about this, it might be worth entrusting the oil change job to a specialist auto box place.  Tell them what the problems are and that you want to try an oil change _but_ if the old oil looks excessively contaminated or carries bits of friction material, you want them to go direct to the clutch pack change.  No point in paying for oil and filter twice.

I take it you have no service history?
