Hi all, random one here. My mk3 galaxy 2.0 tdci 2008 has started randomly being a bugger to start. most days it starts fine after a few revolutions of the engine it starts fine but then on other days it tunrs over for 3-5 seconds starts firing then runs. the car drives absoultly fine with full power and minium smoke at full throttle.
Any sugestions??? thanks

Might be worth getting fault codes read initially before delving deeper.

Sorry forgot to mention I got the delphi code reader and it's all clear. No Mil light to. Thanks

I would be checking the fuel system for leaks as it could be drawing in air losing prime. Pay particular attention to filter housing and seal aswell as any pipes that could have rubbed through somewhere.

have you done the on board computer check to see if there is any old codes logged?

Thanks guys for your help,  checked again today but no codes. started fine today a numours amount of times throughout the day fine then the last time to come home it started fine but cut out 5 seconds before i drove off.  i do agree it could be fuel issue, watching the fuel line between the filter and the high pressure pump there is a few bubbles that flow through it....is this normal!?!?

No, there should never be air in the fuel line. You sir, have a leak!

thanks for your reply, no signs of fuel leaking out but i guess it would draw in air rather than fuel leaking out! will get investigating. cheers.

Yes a leak will cause air to enter and fuel to drain back.

Check them poxy fuel return clips on injectors and also where the fuel line runs close to any part of engine, body or wiring for signs of rubbing

Hi Andrew, I had a mate who had the same problem with his Galaxy a  year ago and it turned out to be the fuel filter. He serviced the car and replaced the fuel filter with a MANN filter which cost Ã,£ 28 as supposed to a genuine fords at around Ã,£ 60 and it turned out that the cheaper one was faulty he replaced it with the fords own make and it never skipped a beat since, hope this helps.
