Hi All,
Back again :)

Ive noticed over the past few weeks my clutch biting point has gone from 3/4 way up to right to the top.
You can physically change gear by tapping the clutch pedal.

I was wondering if i somehow have got air in the system, if so, do anyone have any guides on how to bleed the clutch?

My old focus had to have the clutch rebleed by RAC as it lost all bite.

Thanks in advance

Getting air in the system would cause the pedal to sink further to the floor before it would disengage the clutch, what you're describing sounds completely the opposite!

Could the return spring have weakened so that the pedal is no longer returning properly to it's rest position?
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

Ahhhh, dont tell me that :)

The clutch isnt slipping as its still pull going up a heel in 5th albeit it slow and foot to the floor,
Its just extremely frustrating that if you slight touch the clutch it disengages.

Dont fancy replacing the clutch/slave cylinder unless if physically needs doing.

Just had a quick look and the spring appears fine.
The clutch pedal goes back to it original position one released.

Hit starts are abit of a pain at the moment

It does sound to me like the clutch or pressure plate may be on it's way out I'm afraid  :( If you give it some beans in the low gears when rolling at low speed do the revs rise without much acceleration happening?
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

That the weird thing no,
If i put my foot down from low speeds / stationary i get race car performed.
~~~I can at least dream but it moves pritty good with no grumbling / bogging down.
Ive tried all the typical tests like from stationary putting car in 3rd / 4th and trying to pull away the car stalls as expected.
Although clutch is not slipping I would say the linings have worn low so it's taking more movement to engage it. If it was me I would leave as is for now and look at clutch change when it gets worse/starts to slip.
Ah not great new :)
Ok, i'll leave it for now and wait for the dreaded day of slipping. At least i have breakdown cover.
Dont suppose anyone has a rough idea of price to replace clutch and master slave?
As its petrol so no DMF it will be far cheaper than diesel. Rough guess about Ã,£300?
Thats not too bad.
Its a shame im not savaey enough to do it myself.
I think on these it's a bit of a job to do requiring subframe drop?
Not easy to do on your back.
I did a vectra box and clutch change on my drive once that involves dropping subframe was a mission of a job. I used to do them all the time when I worked at Vauxhall and they were a doddle on a ramp out and back in inside hour and a half but on drive best part of 5 hours and lots of swearing!
Wow, what a different a ramp makes.
Ill leave it to the professionals
Wonder if my landlord wil let me install one on my drive way  [HAHA]
very similar to problem we had when had a manual i would get it done asap  one day ours was  as you describe,  set off with full load and it just gave up altogether slipping like crazy. Had to get towed to garage.
discount for members and an extra sausage !
Ahhhh, bloody typical.
Prob doesn't help matters i have lead feet LOL
Annoyingly were in to minds to keep it as its costing a bomb getting to work and back.
However that wasn't for another 5 or so months.
I suppose i better start getting some quotes.
Do i need to replace the flywheel?
When i look at Euros there is none listed for the 2.3
Not long had the gear linkages replaced as 1st and 2nd were a swine to get into.
So long as you not got judder the flywheel will be ok with a clean up with some emery paper. That's the beauty of solid mass they are not 1 clutch use like a DMF.
That brilliant news thanks.
Just getting quotes for the clutch as Ill need to get this done at the end of the month.
Im hoping it lasts for then.
Im only doing 200 miles every other week at the moment and this is 90% motorway miles.
On the off chance, does anyone know which clutch is required for the 2.3 MkII?
Euro is say 230mm.
http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Ford_Galaxy_2.3_2002/p/car-parts/clutch-and-associated-parts/car-transmission/clutch-kit/?637592880&1&aea335f1841619b1d122e1b79be368bd88196958&000069
My bother-in-law may be able to fit it at work, so just want to ensure i have the right clutch.
I also take it its worth getting the CSC as well?
Other places are saying 228mm
Sorry can't answer question about which clutch required but I would definitely be changing the slave cylinder if it is inside bell housing? Not really sure of the set up on a 2.3 if it is external or if it's part of the release bearing.
No worries,
Ill try and trall through the haynes see if that answers it.
I believe its inside the bell housing (well it certainly looks that way)
Done a quick Google and it looks like all models share same cylinder and it is indeed within bell housing. So yes definitely replace it while the cog swapper is out.
