Whilst I was recommissioning the aftermarket roof aerial for radio I happened to notice and extra coax from gps antenna that is not connected. Also there is an extra coax plug outlet on rear of mfd1.

Out of curiosity I am wondering what they are for,gps works fine so thinking possibly for GSM signal? Anyone any idea?

Do you not have the dual aerial on the rear drivers side window? (boot window).
I know mine certainly does took me for ever to find it and has dual coax:)

Again, i dont have one, but im sure in the good old day there was a GSM signal to a cradle for the retro nokia mobiles
I know this was quite the rage in Vauxhall's and VW's

You sure its an aftermarket aerial? Cars that had SatNav from the factory were fitted with a mini sharkfin aerial at the back.

The second connector is where the TMC (Traffic) unit plugs in, together with the large 19 pin connector. It wasn't an option on the Galaxy and extremely rare for all others models that came with the MFD1. I think I have seen one unit in all my experience and that was a German Passat!

It is defo factory for nav and media system, the gps aerial is a stubby screw in type, the base part has a ford badge and part number on it.

Curious, not seen that one!

I will get a pic of it and post up.

Sorry not the best of pics but this is the gps aerial.

Ahh thats the early version of the Nav aerial and its not aftermarket. Should have GPS and phone outputs.
It got replaced in the 53 plate revisions:

Ok thanks so metal plug is gps and the plastic quick release jobby will be for phone signal then? Didn't even realise mfd1 has phone input or is that for different types of head unit?

The later type aerial looks so much better.

Without seeing it, hard to say but certainly sounds like it. It would have been for the optional phone prep but again, never seen a Galaxy fitted with it!

Hi there,

its hard to change the gps antenna?
i have broke mine yestarday.
I think i found one on ebay.

RM

No it's very easy to do,undo couple of screw clips for head lining and gently pull it down. You can then access the coax plugs to release them and get a spanner on securing nut for the antenna.

Thanks,

I will try before buy it to see.

Just realised are you talking about the old type with stubby mast or shark fin type?
I was describing the old type as that's what mine is,the aerial mast screws out of the base of its that that's broken.

They are fitted and attached the same way so all good :)
