Hi. I have a 2007 1.8tdci 125 zetec and it is having power steering trouble. It has had a recon pump and new reservoir and also a recon rack. But the steering is still not working all I get from Ford is put a ford rack on at Ã,£845 plus fitting. Any help would be gladly accepted!

Well hello! Shame you are having problems but you haven't said what the actual issue is ?

The power steering isn't working. I thought by putting failure in the title was a give away.
The steering is very heavy as if the power steering isn't working. To try and cure this problem it has had a recon pump a new reservoir and also a recon rack but it is still stiff as if it isn't working.
Hope this gives all the details to get some help.

So is there any assistance at all? is it heavier with the engine not running.
Or does yours have the electric pump?

Coming in with that attitude isnt gonna get the VERY knowledgeable people on here to give up THEIR time to help you for FREE.
Failure is a generic term, if your wheel had fallen off you would also have steering failure wouldn't you? Suck it up and put some effort in or go get it fixed at a garage.

Thanks for the heads up grant. Anyway. It is as heavy with the engine running as is turned off. It is offering no assistance to turn the wheel.

So it has had pump, rack and resavoir and still there is no assistance?

Is it hydraulic pas driven off aux belt or is it electric hydraulic system?
Knowing this makes it easier to try and work the problem through.

It is driven off the aux belt. And yes it has had the parts listed. Recon pump new reservoir and a recon rack.  Bloke that has been helping is scratching his head. Took the pipes off and it's pissing out so it's pumping.

I was gonna say have you taken pipes off rack and ran engine and gone lock to lock to see if it pumps out under pressure? Messy job but give indication of pump operation.

can you see if fluid is returning back to resavoir? Maybe remove pipes off rack and temp link up with some hose to prove whole pipe work and cooler circuit are clear of blockages?

From what you describe I would say the recon rack is faulty...... Where did you get the recon from?

We did the check to see if it pumped out under pressure and it did. Will try the return pipe tomorrow.  We got 3 different racks from a breakers. Then the last we took to a garage that recons them and he did it for us. That's what is leaving us puzzled. Will update tomorrow after I have another mess.

I find it hard to believe all the racks have same issue, can only be a problem with fluid flow through the hydraulic circuit.
