Purely out of curiosity as mine does not need wiring up, but got hold of an mfd1 head unit which came with a wiring link with a switch integrated in to it. Does not look like a cobbled together DIY thing but a proper harness.
Anyone know what it is for?

Sound silly, and cluting at straws
Nothing to do with reverse cam?

:D

Could be I suppose it's a bit odd as my original never had this pice of loom.
Only thing I could think is the switch was used to trick unit in to thinking handbrake was on so you could play media when on the move?

That certainly seems more plausible.
Although seems a very complicated way to do it :)

Just trying to work out what the point of the LED / button style thing is for.

Sound silly, plug it in and try  ;D

That's an option might try that when I have a spare 10 minutes.

It is a push switch I have a feeling when on gives a signal on the handbrake or interupts gala signal. The unit from factory has built in safety device so video etc cannot be played on the move, cannot play direct from unit but there are interfaces you can buy to plug in.

Ah i think you probably solved it :)

Let me know how you get on

I plan on getting an interface to plug phone in so will give it a go and see what happens
