hi chaps , I have just started servicing my mk 2 Galaxy TDI  and removed an extremely tight top cap to see that the old oil filter is a lot shorter than the one I ordered from my reg plate details in my service kit  ..... are there 2 different types of paper element filter here , or has it been bodged by the garage who serviced it last ? filter is really tight on the plastic stem of the cap ...... pics to follow , hope someone can help me here

this old filter looks totally wrong to me :(   . and as the filter is so stupidly tight on the stem of the cap , how would I be best to remove it without damaging the filter cap please chaps ?

Looks like the new filter you've got is wrong, your old one looks correct- below is a new genuine Ford one for mine, it should be a Purflux L267D or equivalent, or the Ford part no. is on the box.

The 'stem' is actually part of the filter- the whole lot will separate from the filter body housing cap with a good yank.

The one I've pictured above should be for the 130/150ps TDI's (engine codes ASZ / BTB), it's possible they've given you a filter for a 90 or 115ps TDI instead.

The supplier is sending me the correct filter ,next day delivery , I will fit the genuine ford one and keep the replacement one he sends for the next oil change , he doesn't want the wrong filter he sent returning ,so if anyone needs that for their motor for just the cost of postage let me know  :) this is the wrong one he sent me ( for the 115 bhp engine ) its a Fujitoyo filter , part no - FOP-5201 ...pics below chaps :)

one last question on this if you don't mind fellas ....... as the top cap of the filter is different to the tutorial one ( the 150ps having a "hex head "  bolt head looking fitting moulded on the cap , does this have to be tightened to a specific torque ? ... or again just nipped up by hand ?  I presume they put the "Hex Head" on top of the cap to allow loosening , and not for tightening purposes, but I thought I would ask the question to clarify it for other new members with the same type of filter caps :) I had to use some large adjustables on the cap to get it loosened off because it was that tight !:(

Pretty sure the cap has a torque figure moulded onto it, somewhere in the region of 25Nm if memory serves correctly........ Has yours got the 32mm hex top?

As above they usually have torque figure wrote on top 25nm is figure I thought also,the hex is for tightening with a socket. I don't torque mine up just wind it in until stops then give a few degrees more,so long as new o ring is fitted you won't have an issue

that's what I thought , to nip it up then 1/4 turn further as with a metal cartridge filter  . I am going to fit it tomorrow morning,so will check for any torque info on the cap ( though I think the last person who serviced it must of used an air gun ! lol .... thanks again for the help guys :)

I don't think you'll get one of those plastic filter caps to do 1/4 turn after it seats without breaking it to be honest, from memory the torque of 25Nm is reached very soon after the cap seats- in less than 45 degrees, and even that is being generous, probably more like 5 degrees!

I generally do my cap up tight and then a little bit more, theres a dirty great Oring in there to seal if memory serves
Got a 1/2" drive cap remover  of ebay for a few quid from china😀 makes life so much easier

I tightened it to the specified torque on the cap guys ;)
