hi i have my galaxy and it struggles to get into 5th and 6th gear, i can only seem to get 5th at about 35/40 mph and 6th when doing around 50/60 mph. is this going to be a new gearbox that ill need to fit as never seen this before. it doesn't go into gear when engine is off either but when it does slip in its goes really easily and smooth. i just have a feeling it could be something else can you please all help and give ideas to me please.

cheers

They have an issue with the linkage on top of box, can't remember exactly what it is but something about seizing up. I think you need battery and tray out to gain access to top turret, you can then free it up with plenty of penetrating oil.

There have also been a few reported cases of one of the gearbox bearings failing (though this could be an affect of an underlying issue, not the cause) on the 6 speed manual and causing selection issues, depending on how bad the fault is it could have some 'bearing' (no pun intended!) on the issue, take a read here.

Hi, there is only grinding if it doesn't go into 5th properly. If engine is off it still doesn't go in, I'm doing a trip to France in just over a month (family holiday) and I really can't afford a gearbox. I have read it can be the oil need changing?

On a manual transmission, I.M.H.O hoping that an oil change will cure a selection problem that affects only one gear is overly optimistic. Especially if you also can't select that gear with the engine off and the gearbox internals static. That suggests a mechanical fault. Nothing to lose by changing the oil but I'd be very surprised if that solves it.

Completely agree, the oil is almost certainly going to do nothing. There is a selection shaft internally that can snap piece off leading to difficult selection  if the selector mech is OK and aligned, the clutch isn't giving grief then it all sounds fairly likely to be ano internal fault.
