Worth taking a read here, here and here.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

cheers for that
in case people are after the pipe the price at the minute is Ã,£72 posted

does any one know how to seperate the pipes got a man here trying to do it now

If it's not a union that's physically bolted together then the pipes usually have an oversized 'flange' at the joint which requires a release tool to be inserted into the flange, any A/C specialist should have said tools and know how to use them- they look like this usually (at least the ones I've used).

he said he pushed the collar in but its didn't move so suspects its failed and is going to cut the main collar the ease  it out cheers for your help

Right update lol
First man left and didn't come back
So took it to the guys I normally use only reason I didn't go originally is they are retiring soonish so was try to find a replacement garage
Good thing is they have someone and they recommend them so that's sorted
Union under headlight wouldn't come apart so they went to next union took off there then dremled the faulty union
Forgot to as them to remove the receiver so spent couple of hours trying to remove the circlip took it back to them and eventually we got it out
The cap was greased up but still a pain to get out
So now to my problem who do you extract the dryer cartridge as the slam panel is in the way
They said to cut away about 1/2 an inch above the cartridge holder
Any other suggestions much appreciated
Sorry for the long story

I have done this job, that circlip is indeed a royal P.I.T.A to get out. Basically the job is much easier with the bumper removed, you can then remove the two drivers side self tapping headed bolts that hold the condenser to the radiator (or intercooler, depending on whether you have a 90/115 or 130/150ps TDI). It is then possible to move the condenser far enough forward on the drier element side to extract the drier cartridge as below (the yellow arrows point to the access holes in the front panel which allow you to access the bolts which need releasing in order to move the condenser forward on the drivers side. It is my understanding that the earlier Mk2 Galaxy front panels did not have these handy access holes provided in the front panel).
