As in the previous thread my car went in for a re-gas this morning as the air-con wasn't really that cold, and the climatron was flashing on start up.

Just had this back from the mechanic, i've just checked and confirm its right

One of the previous owners removed the air-con compressor off the aux. belt.
They then replace the aux. belt with a smaller belt.
Left all the cables/pipes dangling

It extremely unfortunate but you cant do anything but laugh.

I just love the fact someone spend time taking the belt off, removing the compressor, sourcing a new belt, re-installing the new below.

Logic of some people. 
Well at least this explains why my aux. belt sometimes slips on start-up

Yes it's incredible what lengths some people will go to, unfortunately the compressors are prone to seizing up or the clutch disintegrating, sounds like that's whats happened here and instead of making a proper repair they've just bypassed the whole thing!

It sure is.

For the price of a second hand compressor (Ã,£30 - Ã,£40) that's got to be either the same price or less than a new aux. belt.

I'm glade i know now rather than coming to replace the aux. belt at a later stage to find out i the original is no good

I'm going to assume the belt i would need if and when replacing would be for a 2.3 that didnt come factory fitted with air-con.

To the best of my knowledge all Mk2 Galaxies intended for the European market were fitted with air con as standard, I don't think they made a version without.

Your completely right just did a quick autotrader check and from 2001 > the LX models has air conditioning.

What belt did they replace it with.

Is this likely to do any harm? The car is chain driven

They must have used either trial and error getting a bet to fit or used one from a different ford engine with similar set up?

Ah, so if my aux. belt fails i'm going to have to foot the bill of a new condenser, or do a bodge job.

If you still have belt then take to match up against a new one or if no belt use some string around the belt run to get a rough size sky out can match it up.

Or get a replacement compressor and reinstate the proper set up!

I did think just gettin new aux. belt and condersor however ive never really wanted to touch any of the belts
