Hi, has anyone experience with both these engines on the Seat Alhambra or VW Sharan? Just wondering what the most obvious difference is regarding fuel consumption, reliability etc. Would welcome all comments. Thanks.

Well hello!

Both are good engines, both achieve good MPG and both are largely reliable. The 1.9 has very few weaknesses if its maintained correctly with the correct spec. oil. The 2.0 shares this trait but also has known issues with oil pump's (supposedly corrected by 2009ish).

The 2.0 is slightly more refined at pace but also slightly less efficient due to emissions regulations (I think I got away with mentioning VW and emissions in the same line!). Personally, I would opt for a 1.9 over a 2.0 if it were a direct choice but I wouldn't be put off by a 2.0.

Good luck hunting! :)

Thanks for that, much appreciated! ;D

I've also seen it said that the injectors (Siemens?) fitted to some of the 2 litre P.D's are less reliable than the Bosch ones........
