clunking from front when steering

I have noticed a clunking sound on the front left when steering only when driving its doesnt clunk, it only clunks when stationary, have checked underneath and supension and cant see anything.

Please can anyone help with any onfo as dont want to take to a garage if i dont need to

The first thing I would look at is the CV joint - stands for "Constant Velocity", it joins the end of the drive shaft to the wheel bearing.  Check the rubber cover that protects the joint from dirt and road spray - they are designed to fail (eventually), and do split. When they split, some of the grease that protects the joint oozes out, and the joint gets dry/no-grease.
The fix is quite straight forward, and I could certainly help guide you through with some instructions.  I've done mine, and the end-results were fine.

CV joints are ok no rips or tears. The clunking inly happens while stationary

I have just hasd to have a recon rack fitted due to play in the rack on my 2011 Galaxy which was making a clunking noise but only audible when stationary which is a worst case really but worth checking. Alsocheck the tie rods as these wear at the end that meets the rack under the bellows

My first post here, but have found this site very informative.

I should have said a welcome but been to busy fixing my own problems with my sons and my galaxy's.

Anyway, as ggsumo1 above says, quite probably tie rod ends?

Had the same problem with my sons car.

Best to Jack up the car so the front wheels are of the ground, then turn the steering wheel so the steering lock engages, ignition key removed.

Then grab the front road wheels one at a time, and try to move the wheel back and forth left to right. If you find play and clunking, on one side only, probably the tie rod end.

It was never noticed when driving, only when doing some other work on the car.

May not be your problem, but worth a look?
