Hello very new to here and know nothing about cars.  4 weeks ago drove down to Bedford from staffs.  Next day lost power to car whilst doing 40mph.?transmission failure light flashing.  Rac checked car over going for fast spins nothing detected.  Went to ford garage next day nothing detected.  Car has a knocking effect when increasing speed. Sometimes transmission light flashing.
2 weeks ago same incident lost all power.  Crawled to a restaurant let the car rest for 2 hours then drove home.  Knocking effect continues as I increase speed.  Ford in Lichfield checked it over.  They say alternator is over heating and needs changing.  Also need to change gear box oil and filters.  Have taken to an independent garage today.  The alternator is fine as well as suspension which Lichfield said was broken!!!! They think it is electrical this explains flat battery, sometimes dash board lights not switching off, cd fault drive randomly appearing.  Has anyone experienced similar?? All advice very welcome as different garages are saying different things.  Thank you jo

jo i do hope thats just a mistake in your profile? 1976 galaxy,WOW  [HAHA]

if your dash board is not powering down then im suspecting it may require a software update??and that can only be done at the dealers.

If Powershift box and over 37,000(?) miles, it needs an oil change.  May be the cause of transmission problems.  Unfortunately, just the cost of the oil is over Ã,£200.
