Sue Ford Motor Company for flawed car security

Dear All

Please read patiently. I wrote this compliant to FORD after my brand new car 2014 model, got stolen; I am really annoyed and frustrated and seek guidance. So once you have read this please advise. Thanks

For the first time in 20 years, I decided to purchase a FORD GALAXY TITANIUM X on 28 June 2014 with almost all the extra features and options in preference to other models like VW and Mercedes Benz. I bought the car from the Ford Dealer (Marshall of Bury St Edmunds IP32 7BY).

Yesterday (08/12/2015), to my utter dismay, the van was stolen  from outside my house. Obviously, Police and insurance company have been duly informed.

However I intend to take up a few questions regarding the so called best-in-class safety features, so much trumpeted in the media. It is extremely frustrating and annoying as you can very well imagine.

Kindly enlighten me with the answers to the following question:

1-     The model had all the safety features like Alarm, Immobiliser and keyless entry etc., yet in spite of all this the car gets stolen. Was it the best level of security Ford could have provided?

2-     Why is it that Ford had provided such low-level, inferior security measures which could easily be hacked by thieves?

Now I am inconvenienced of being without the car and am obliged to use taxi for my day to day activities. You can very well imagine the stress, pain and hassle of going through the entire works and on top of all this my financial loss.

I am not pleased with this at all. I bought the vehicle in good faith, with a view that itââ,¬â,,¢s FORDââ,¬â,,¢s flagship vehicle. In fact you the car company should be sued for providing low-level, inferior security measures which can easily be hacked by thieves. I am writing to you to determine what you are going to do about it to compensate me for my pain and trouble.

I expect that you acknowledge receipt of this note immediately and advise me what actions are being taken to address the issue.

Ford Motor Company takes the safety and security of its products extremely seriously.  Due to this, all vehicles come with the very latest in terms of security technology and is in line with the rest of the market.  There are no known concerns or issues relating to the security of any of our products.

We cannot be held accountable for the extreme lengths that individuals are prepared to go to, in order to bypass the measures that are put in place. However, Ford vehicles are no less secure than and other rivaling products available in the market today and we are continually striving to innovate and improve security on a regular basis. Therefore, due to the nature of the concern I must refer you to your insurance company and your local police department.

I apologise if you feel we have not met your expectations on this occasion.

Humm sorry to hear your troubles.

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of posting this though? I assume you are unhappy with the reply you received from Ford but I can't say I am surprised at it. If or until the police come back with how the car was stolen you can't prove that the security was in anyway flawed.

A recent spate of thefts have involved flat-bed trailers, they turn up and cradle lift the car onto the trailer and then drive it off to a secure location where they have hours,days, weeks or months to defeat security (assuming they intend to use it and not break it down for parts). No alarm, immobiliser or entry system is going to protect the car from that type of theft. It could be even now sat in a yard still fully locked, alarmed and immobilised and you can't prove otherwise which is why you wouldn't get anywhere in a court of law.

I do fully understand your opinion and I imagine if I were in your shoes the same thought would have crossed my mind but unfortunately they are correct. Unless you can actually prove that the car's alarm and immobiliser were disabled and the car was simply driven off without the key, it's not fair to say the security of the vehicle is in anyway inferior or flawed.

Although I sympathise wholly with your loss, I am surprised at your rather irrational reaction.
A simple Google search for "modern cars security" brings up a whole host of articles, including:

Basically, if a thief really wants your car, they are going to have it; that's another reason our insurance is so high.
It is particularly prevalent in London for car theft of sophisticated keyless entry vehicles.
I have a CCTV camera on loop record watching my drive, for a bit more peace of mind at least; it won't stop the theft, but at least you can see how it happened.
