2003 Zetec Auto Front Cover

We've had our Galaxy for 10 years and it has covered 95K from new and is due for 'retirement' from us so don't really want to get into a spending circle!  The problem is that the front cover on the gear box has perforated with rust (not unusual apparently!).  Ford want about Ã,£250 for a new one.  Does anyone know where I can source one more cheaply (even second hand providing that hasn't rusted through!).  It was patched with liquid metal about 4 years ago but it is now beyond that!

If you want new then VW/SEAT will be significantly cheaper then Ford as it's theirs and Ford buy it in (with a markup). Finding a second hand one will be difficult I imagine as most sellers will want to sell the gearbox complete but you might have luck hunting for galaxys being broken due to auto faults.

For the record this is the first one I've heard of where that cover has rusted through, they are powder coated from the factory so if the lower grill is fitted then it shouldn't get chipped and therefore shouldn't rust...

You may have better results also searching for Jatco JF506E model gearbox it's also used on Land Rover, Jaguar, and Mazda.
