Ignition Fob key problem Ford Galaxy Mk2 year 2004

Please can someone help me and give me their valuable suggestion/advice . I have a Ford Galaxy Zetec 2004 MK2, 7seater van. Recently the remote keyfob stopped working for ignition. It was OK for central locking. I have also a spare key (not remote) that was OK for ignition and central locking)

To have the remote key fixed, I took it to a locksmith who put a new chip in it and reprogrammed it. (Note: The chip that sits inside the case shell by the blade). He used the spare key in conjunction to do so. Now the remote key is working fine but I am having problem with spare key. If I lock the doors with remote fobkey and then use the spare key to unlock it, the alarm goes off.  I have tried to quickly insert it in the ignition but the alarms stays and I can still start the van. (With the alarm going).

The locksmith is saying this is how should it be and I am not convinced, I take it this way, suppose I loose the remote fob, then the option I have is to use the spare key instead. That is no good to me as the alarm will go off and remains unless I use the remote key to stop it.

I shall be grateful for your help.

Hi Dennis, slightly strange scenario!

From the sound of the locksmith has cloned your spare key's immobiliser chip and put that in the remote fob so you now have the two working keys (albeit they are duplicates and not unique). The locksmith is correct in that if you remotely lock the car and then mechanically unlock it the alarm should activate, however when you turn the ignition on then the alarm should silence as it detects the correct key; so its this bit that isn't working correctly.

What happens if you lock the car with the remote key but then unlock it manually with the same key (and then insert that into the ignition?) Will the alarm silence then?

N o the alarm does not silence.

has the git robbed the chip from your spare and just put it in the remote fob?
hence you can unlock the car with the non remote key but because theres no chip in it its setting the alarm off?

does the car start from the non remote key?

Thank you for your response. I was away when he was working on the car so don't know whether he swapped the chip between the remote and the spare key. ( He had asked me to give him both the keys before working on it)

Yes,  I can start the car even when the alarm is going on.

There is something very odd about this as the car should recognise the correct chip and turn off the alarm when the key is in the ignition, the fact it isn't would indicate that either the chip isn't present when the key is inserted or it's not the correct chip.

If you split the remote key, you can see there is a chip there? If you remove the chip, will the car start?
