Tow electrics no indicators

Hi

Wondering if anyone can point me in the correct direction

I have fitted a tow bar and the ford dedicated kit, loops backs into existing lighting

All electrics on the car still work however I have no indicators on any towed trailer

Part of the kit was the relay for towing electrics this is clicking as if it is working

Any ideas on why I don't have indicators would be welcome as I'm stuck

Thank you

Lloyd

Did it have a control module? From memory I don't think the dedicated kits for the Mk2 do so it'll be picking all the signals off the existing wiring. Its obviously somewhat unlikely that you've got all the supplies incorrect which would make me start with the ground since tow electronics are all linked through that. Where did you connect the ground? If you have a multimeter then measure resistance at pin 3 of the trailer socket to a known good ground point (assuming you have installed the older 7 pin wiring)

Thanks for you reply I issue the connections are correct as otherwise the car lights wouldn't work as they where unplugged then looped in

The ground is off a ground loop on the right hand side behind the panel in the boot (new ground point) and off existing ground point on left hand side. Left hand side used for cd changer and parking sensors both still working

I'm not to the controller point the kit did have to boxes but I think both are relays

Cheers

Lloyd

Not sure if it help. But these are the boxes and both ground points

Yup that looks like basic switching relays, nothing special other then to take a signal and switch a supply.

Without being there it is difficult to advise but you'll need to start doing some metering to see what is being supplied. If the relay (which one btw red or black?) is ticking in time with the indicators then it would suggest that the signal is fine and either the supply or ground is missing or mixed up.

Is the tow socket a 7pin or 13pin version? I assume 7 as these are still the more common in the UK, you need to measure pin 1 and 4 both for voltage and for ground. Also it would still be worth checking out pin 3 for a good ground. Do you have a meter? I can guide further if you've not done this type of work before.

How do I do this?? I will get a meter from the technician at work

The red relay tucks in time with the indicators / hazards

I think the back box earth is ok as if I take this out have no rear lights at all

Makes sense! Ok so testing is fairly strait forward - you'll just need the meter and a good ground point on the car. When you have the meter let me know the model of it and I'll tell you how to set it up and where to test...
