Hello,
My mk2 Sharan came with just 1 remote key and I'd like to get as spare, I've seen them on eBay priced between Ã,£34 & Ã,£130 !  Should the cheap ones be avoided or can anyone recommend a supplier?
I've read the reprogramming thread in the reference library and I think I can follow it, does anyone have experience of reprogramming one of the eBay keys?
Thanks in advance, Nick.

Programming the remote fob part of the key for the Sharan is the same as the Galaxy and shouldn't cause a problem. Unfortunately the immobiliser chip also needs to be programmed, which is a separate procedure and this you cannot do yourself on the Sharan (you can on the Galaxy if you have two existing programmed keys as the immobiliser implementation is different on the Galaxy compared to the Sharan), it will have to be taken to a dealer where the labour charge will likely be as much as the key, if not more! Other than that, a locksmith may be able to 'clone' your existing key but it will still cost you in addition to the cost of the key itself.

Thanks Paul, I should've realised there would be a catch with cheap ebay (there normally is)  ::) perhaps I'd better give my local dealer a call for a price so I can start saving  :D

Oh dear  ??? is it that expensive? Maybe I'll have to be careful with my one key then  ;D

If you can find a decent used key (and are happy to use a secondhand part) then the key itself needn't be stupid money, though you'll need to get a new blade cut and either ensure the key comes with the immobiliser chip (whereby the main cost will be dealer labour to programme it) or find a locksmith who can supply & clone a chip with the blade.

If you want the cheapest option then IMO it will be to get a secondhand key, and get a locksmith to cut you a new blade and clone the chip from your existing key.

i bought another key from ebay and managed to get it cut at timpsons.
cloning wasnt an option then, but the new key blank/remote and cutting cost me about 40 quid.
never did get it programmed to the pats system.
