Water under carpet in driver's footwell

I have reached yet another new problem with my beloved Galaxy!!  Having had a water problem over the last couple of years whereby I have been losing coolant with no obvious signs of where too, I finally resolved this two months ago by changing the head gasket  >:(

Now I have water appearing under the carpet in the driver's footwell  ???

I have checked the drainage points for the sunroof (all four of them to be on the safe side) and taken the arch liners off the front arches and cleaned all the muck and debris from behind it (yuck!!!), but cannot find any obvious means of water ingress from there to under the carpet?  The water is definitely NOT coolant or washer bottle - it appears to be rainwater.  It is not appearing ON the carpet but is coming through the carpet from underneath - can anyone shed some light on this and stop a girl going round the bend?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Can clarify is can't be screenwash on the drivers side as that all passes on the passengers side :)

When you cleaned out the wheel arches did you also do the scuttle (Behind the windscreen wiper mechanism). This is another common place for leaves and debris to stick and block the exits. There is foam sealed hole on the drivers side (which would be in use on a LHD car) which could allow water to enter the cabin if blocked.

I've also see poor seals on the wiring grommet on the drivers door and also for the foam panel on the inside of the drivers door to come unstuck at the bottom. Water can get then drip down the inside of the panel, inside the kick plate (so won't show on the carpet) and enter the car instead of going out of the bottom of the door.

Finally there is a lesser possibility that the A/C drain from the evaporator is blocked, this water is condensation so again would be clear like rain water. Is your A/C working?

If your sure the sun roof drains are still connected and clear, and the scuttle drains below wiper links are clear then you may have an issue with the windscreen bonding breaking down, rainwater can run down the inside of the bulkhead under the sound absorbent material.

GalGirl has a leak in the drivers footwell.  The washer pipe soaks the passenger footwell....as many of us know from bitter experience ::)

Thanks for the welcome!  My air con appears to be working fine.  Am I correct in thinking that there is only one drain for the air con and that is kind of on the passenger side under the car - I get water deposited about there on a warm day and am assuming it is that.  Reference the skuttle - didn't clean it, but did run water through it to make sure it was coming out of the wheel arch - not sure how to clean it properly as it appears to go quite deep into the recess behind the wipers (am I talking about the right thing here) appears clear from the wheel arch though.  Reference your other suggestions, I will have a look and come back to you. There is a LOT of water under the carpet - almost a lake!!!.  Cheers! :-\

Thanks for this - sorry to sound a bit dim, but how can I check that? Will it be visible, or do I need to pour water on it?  Any help gratefully accepted!!  :)

Firstly if you haven't checked those sunroof tubes are properly connected to the sunroof do that first, it will mean you have to lower the roof lining enough to access also look for tell tale water staining on roof lining.

If that's OK remove the trim down the sides of the screen on the inside again look for water marking.

Checking the screen is more difficult as you will need to remove the outside trim and the plastic covers under wiper linkage
Any movement in the glass would require the screen removed and rebonded.
