Hi I am thinking about buying my first s-max but can't decide which one to go for. Do I purchase the 1.6tdci or the 2.0tdci. It will be the main family car due to the ability to have three car seats across the middle row of seats. The majority of journeys will be short ones with the occasional long journey for a holiday. I would guess that we would cover 8,000 to 10,000 per year.

Finally what spec should I go for zetec or titianium.

Thanks in advance

Mark

maybe take both out for a test drive,but.........
from a personal point of view of driving other mpv type cars with lo powered engines,i wouldnt go for a 1.6.
even though its smaller then the galaxy its still a heavy car,so if your fully loaded up with your family, you will have to rev the nuts off it to gt it moving.
i have as my sig says a 2ltr tdi titanium,we did have a zetec,if your pockets can afford it go for the higher spec, you wont regret it.
the only downfall is with the 18" wheels they do tend to go through tyres rather rapid, and depending on how bad/good the roads are can tram line within grooves.
good luck and keep us all posted on what you decide to get.

If its the same spec as the 1.6tdci in the CMax watch out as they generally eat turbos. Once one turbo goes due to the poor design retaining carbon in the sump and blocking the oil feed pipe filter it will keep on destroying them even if you follow the cleaning procedure. VOE.
If you must have a diesel then the 2.0l is less prone to failure.
If only used for short journeys then a 2.0l Duratec is not too bad on fuel really and has no nasty garbage fitted like modern diesels. Mine does around 32mpg and a chap I know only gets about 45 from his diesel. Taking into account it was about Ã,£3k cheaper than his that's a lot of fuel.
