Galaxy MK2 Air Con Compressor Part number question...

Greetings all,

I wonder if someone might be able to help me, I'm looking at a potential fault with the air con compressor and / clutch mechanism and i'm trying to identify the correct part number for a replacement unit.

I've found two parts at just Ã,£136 in VAT for the compressor & clutch which seems almost too good to be true but it's the part numbers that are bothering me at the moment. There's a 14-1226 & a 14-1226P. The former covers Apr 2000 - Nov 2002 and the latter covers Nov 2002 - Jul 2006. I'm wondering which one should I consider?

Mine is a Galaxy Mk2 on a 52 plate so it's probably got the 14-1226 version.

I'm interested to know the difference between the two if anyone knows as they look identical. Unfortunately my car is not with me so I can't check which part I have fitted but I could do with ordering a replacement today if possible.

That's assuming it is the compressor / clutch... The aux belt came off this week and the tensioner pulley had melted. I noted another recent post here from someone with a similar problem and that was related to the compressor clutch failing so I'm guessing I have a similar problem. I'm hoping to get it properly diagnosed later today... Not helped that I need the car urgently on Sunday and the backup motorbike has just been returned to me without an MOT which is not helping matters (grr...)

Many thanks :)

Mark

Hello and  welcome5

Because of the problems you have had I wouldn't even consider just replacing the clutch as your pump is most likely seized or partly seized
my 52 reg has the Sanden pump fitted and iirc the difference is the clutch fitted to the pump and possibly the electrical connector is different.
The cheaper one does say patent part which has the P in the part number.

Thanks Chris,

Yeah, i'm erring towards replacing the whole unit, especially given the price of this unit - that's assuming the garage i'm using will happily fit the unit I provide them or charge no more for a unit they source themselves... I'll find out a bit later...

For the record, this is the unit I'm considering:
