Flashing red light

When I now lock the car a flashing light is viable on the dash that in the last 5 years I have never notice.
Other sites say this is telling me the alarm is working . Is this true or is it something else and can I turn it off?

That is correct the light flashes when you lock the doors and the alarm is set.
