Hi guys i have an 07 1.8tdci galaxy. Was going up through the gears and heard a pop then a plume of black smoke from the exhaust! Car is in limp mode with engine malfunction light on. Has my turbo died??

Hello and  welcome5

Sounds more like a hose has split on the air charge side.

Hi Chris aye hopefully m8. Got codes p010f and p0299 the later points to a split hose when i googled them. Cheers

That'll do it, I don't know the plumbing layout well enough on the Mk3 to say if that hole should just be blanked off or if there is another pipe or a sensor that plugs in there.

Having said that, if this is the correct parts diagram for your spec of vehicle it looks like it could be the port for the air temp sensor.

hi Paul am not clued up on mechanics but I get the feeling there should be something in that hole lol... and there is quite a bit of oil around it too

If there was a sensor in there then it should still be floating about loose in the engine bay somewhere attached to a cable.

arite I thought it would be gone.. i'll get a look tomorrow. do you think it be knackered or just needing put back in?

From the looks of it I'm guessing the plastic part that plugs that pipe (that the sensor itself would then fit into) is probably glued or bonded into place and this has failed, allowing the plug to blow out. Assuming there was a sensor in it then see if you can find the cable/ sensor and see what's still attached to it, I'd say it's unlikely you'll be able to just plug it back in though, more likely the pipe itself has failed and a new one will be required.

That's a mighty big hole for a sensor, I'm fairly sure the IAT sensor is the same as used on the Mondeo and Focus which would make it a lot smaller then that hole, unless its a plate that the sensor screws onto which kinda seems an odd choice.

What side of the engine is that pipe on? Trying to work out if its pre or post intercooler.

Got a new pipe put on but they dont come with the air temp sensors anymore so it had to be remapped at a ford dealership which cost Ã,£40. All going well now thanks for all the comments
