Changed battery on key now central locking not working how do reset it😂

the mk1 manual states,if too much time of replacing the batteries then all keys need to be reprogrammed.

hold the key near the car and press the unlock button 3 times within 5 seconds.the light n the drivers door should light up for 20 seconds.
within this period press and hold the lock button 3 times.if the light on the door flashes the system has accepted the new code.
wait until the light comes on again and repeat the procedure with further keys within 20 seconds.
