Hi

I have a manual tdi and all of a sudden I am unable to select any gears while engine is running - if I select gear then start car there is initially a slight lurch but car doesn't continue to move as if slipping clutch.
I'm hoping this isn't the clutch itself due to the expense of it - could it be the slave/master cylinder??
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks

Have a look at the fluid container see if the fluid level has dropped, if it has you need to look at the rear of the master cylinder inside the car by clutch pedal.

Slave cylinder leaking usually visible from lower edge of gearbox bell housing, if the slave is leaking this will require removal of the gearbox so you have to decide changing clutch and DMF at the same time.

Thanks Chris.
The fluid reservoir seems ok - above min level.
I did attempt to bleed the clutch but can't locate the bleed screw - is it visible/accessible from the top or do I need to get it from underneath?
Thanks

Have you got resistance at the pedal? If not then that would suggest either fluid leaking from the high pressure pipe or failed seals on one of the cylinders, especially if it's just stopped working overnight. I don't think you can see the bleed nipple from below for the clutch, you have to access it from up top- as you look into the engine bay, infront and to the right of the engine block and just to the left of the battery tray- basically, below the battery tray.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

When you start the car in gear is the biting point on the clutch as before or is the biting point immediate (very low to the carpet)
