Hiya there, bought our Galaxy 1.9 TDI 04 plate in Jan this year off an "Honest John"second hand car dealer type. I constantly seem to be having problem after problem with it :(
Firstly the main fusebox burnt out and now I have a problem with loss of power on acceleration & a terrible bloody grinding/ whirring noise when steering aid at full lock left or right. This car was an impulse purchase just to get us mobile as my Wifey was due with our Third kiddy last Christmas. I love Fords and had a Focus 1.6 which ran for 8 years problem free. Can ANYONE please give me an idea of what's causing this loss of power and these strange noises from the steering???

Hello Rob
Quite a common problem sounds like alternator clutch pulley has seized.
You can check this by inserting carefully a screwdriver through the slots in the alternator casing and gently try moving the fan blade to the the right and left.
If the pulley has seized you wont be able to move it at all, if it's working correctly you should be able to move it in one direction only.

You could also do this by removing the drive belt, inserting screwdriver to prevent fan blade turning whilst gently turning pulley, as before the pulley will rotate in one direction but not the other if it is OK, if the pulley wont turn in either direction the pulley is seized and will require replacement.

Is it also possible that the power steering pulley might need to be tightened? It is easily accessed and adjusted from under the front drivers side. At full lock the pulley belt is put at extra pressure and might slip if a bit loose.

Thanks guys!!
Awaiting to hear from my mechanic guy to drop the car back tonight, he's a good reliable bloke and doesn't do unnesessary work . Hasn't given me back positive vibes though and has just said we need to discuss it later😨😬......watch this space but will pass on your recommendations that I'm very grateful for!!!
