Hi all,
I broke down the other nite and had to call my breakdown company. First the abs light came on then I noticed how dim my headlights were. I pulled over and stopped my galaxy. Tried starting it again and it was dead.
I then got the first bad news, I'm not covered to be taken to my final destination. I honestly thought i was as I'd included home start. My fault, should have read my policy.
Breakdown guy came out, did a quick checked and declared my alternator was dead. I had two choices. To be taken to the nearest garage and have to spend over nite in a hotel or, Be taken 10 miles closer to home, charge my battery and hope I made it home. I managed 34 miles short of home. Called my breakdown company to get taken home. Ã,£185 ouch.
I got home just after 4am monday morning and jumped straight on Google. First I checked breakdown companies website, average time it takes them to arrive is 30-40mins. I waited 85mins.
Second search on google got me to SilverBeast and his brilliant guide here: https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy-reference-library/battery-junction-boxauxiliary-fuse-box-repair/msg5830/#msg5830

As well as the Ã,£185 to get home I've had to spend Ã,£94.99 om a battery booster/jump start powerpack.
My question is, If this is indeed a well known problem should'nt the fuses and terminals been checked at the roadside?

I've carried out a temporary repair while waiting on delivery of a new Battery Junction Box / Auxiliary Fuse Box (a link to the item on Ebay from here) and a gas solder iron kit.

Good news, at last... powerpack fully charged this morning.. car started and the alternator is charging my battery. :) :)

Forgot to mention... Because of this site I've avoided a garage picking my car up and their repair bill. grouphugg [GJ]

Well done on the temporary repair, the fuse box is becoming a more common failure as the vehicles age and the alternator get's the blame in the first instance only to find they still have a problem after having a new alternator fitted.

An observation you have a 30 amp green fuse in the first slot this should be the 3 amp purple like the one laying there

I had the identical problem with identical symptoms.

I ordered a replacement fuse from VW (Ã,£4 approx.) and fitted it to the burned out Junction box - all is well  :D

I also removed all the original terminals, cleaned the wires and replaced the terminals but this time soldered them to the wires and thus far - like a new car (Can you cancel the fuse box too?  :P )

Well spotted Chrispb  [OOPS], It was the only fuse I could lay my hands on, new fuse box should be here today.
I've only driven locally just to get some more charge in the battery. noticed my central locking remote is working better, last few days I'd been clicking it right up to sticking the key in the lock.

@Fraz-ktf, The reason I'm fitting a new fuse box is two reason. piece of mind and when I contact my breakdown company. I've been taking photos and will continue after soldering the terminals.

My ol gal is my posh van and normally only has two seats in it and the back full of tools...Handyman needs his tools :D
it's only got seats in at the moment as I'd done my yearly baccy run.
