Engine cuts out when starting doesn't do it all the time dont know whether it could be idle control valve mk1 2ltr or something else

Is it starting and just cutting out straightaway or is it just refusing to start in the first place? As yours is a petrol it sounds like it could be a relay 30 (or fuel pump relay) issue (though the info in the link applies to a Mk2 Galaxy, the Mk1 suffered with similar issues).
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!
