Hi folks! Does anybody know whether I can fit VW 17" Monte Carlo alloys to the galaxy? I have checked and the ET on the alloys is 47. Cheers.

Yes, the VW Monte Carlo's are a straight fit, as are all wheels from the Golf Mk5/6 platform. Look perfect on the Galaxy, imho.
Note that the tyres will need to be a profile larger than those on the Golf, and a higher weight rating (95 as opposed to 92?).
I have the 18" five spoke Audi S-lines similar to Mirez, off an Audi A3, although I am using 20 mm H&R spacers on the rear. Looks and sits perfect for me

Thanx for the reply! Do you know the maximum offset for the galaxy? I don't want to use spacers that's why I'm asking. Cheers.

Hi,
The factory original Galaxy 16" alloy wheels are, if memory serves me correctly, 7" wide with ET59 offset. This, for me, sits way too far inside the wheel arch, i.e. too much of the body overhangs the wheel.
Bear in mind, the lower the offset, the further the wheel will sit out in the wheel arch.
If you are talking about the 7 1/2" wide Monte Carlo, the offset as you already mention is ET47. This would still sit well inside the wheel arch, but further out than original wheels, for me, giving an instant improvement in appearance.
Correct tyre size for these wheels would be 225 50 17 with 95 load rating.

Hi again,
Just to add, a 7.5" rim with an offset of ET47 is probably a good compromise.
ET35 would look good on the rear, but might stick out too much on the front.
Just an opinion.

Thanx for your replies! I asked at the dealer's but no luck. On the net, the max ET is being advised as 45! There's nothing on the owners manual regarding that. Cheers.

I had a set of 17 Audi wheels that were on before the 18s and they were ET47. The only point to note about going lower is that you risk rubbing bodywork if you load the car significantly (ie, 7 adults)

Thanx again for your replies. I think I will go for the 17" Monte Carlos. They look good and right ET. Can I fit 215/55/17" rather than 225/50/17" tyres? Xl obviously. Cheers.

Yes, you'll just make them a fraction narrower doing that (1cm width)

Hi again,
You should also be aware that a narrower tyre may leave the face of the wheel more exposed to kerb damage, if you are inclined to brush against it when parking, for imstance.
I had a cheap tyre (Haida) fitted in an emergency, allegedly the same size as the Conti's on the other wheels (225 45 18 on 7.5 width wheel), and it was clearly narrower, the wheel face sitting proud of the tyre wall.

Thanx everyone for your replies! I'm a big fan of Good Year assymetrics in 17" size. They lasted me over 24 k and amazing grip. And that was the front ones!
