Hi can anyone tell me if any of the vw models have the same gearbox as the 2005 galaxy 1.9tdi 150 bhp? Can't find a used one for mine as it's the rare 150 and ford wants 4400+ for a new one. Appreciate any help or advice. Gaz

The boxes are theoretically all the same bar the ratios, You should be fine using a box from a 130PS engine in theory. Others from VAG's range will be much the same, the Golf 150 will use the same box but the ratios will be different again...

With cream leather interior, Full Bodykit, Remapped at 145bhp, Lowered on 18's
17 Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 V6 Diesel in Slate Blue
262Bhp AWD and Factory fresh...for now!
58 Ford Transit 2.2 TDI 115 in Frozen White
With retrofitted everything except another slidey door! :)

Thanks for your help have you any idea which would be best to use ratio wise cheers

Like Mark says the 130ps TDI should have exactly the same gearbox with the same ratios as the 150ps model, if you can find a breaking Alhambra, Sharan or Galaxy with the 130 or 150ps TDI motor fitted then you should be ok.

The 130 box should be as near as dammit perfect for the 150. The clutch and flywheel are the same as the 150 and IIRC the ratios are just a little longer in 5th and 6th for the 150 - in reality, doubtful you'd notice.

Hi thanks guys for your replies do you know if the Sharran 2.0tdi box will fit I know the head is different but bottom end looks the same . I have found one of these locally cheers

Hi thanks for help job done sharan 2.0 gearbox went straight in, new drive shaft and intermediate shaft and new turbo and back on road. Gearbox failed the bolts holding driveshaft to intermediate shaft tore out with the threads from intermediate shaft still on them and a bolt went off like a missile and shattered the turbo casing. Expensive repair but lesson learnt no more cheapJ&R TRADING drive and intermediate shafts. Thanks again

So did the inner CV joint housing to intermediate driveshaft flange bolts fail as a result of the gearbox seizing or something like that, what actually went wrong with the gearbox?

Unsure which failed first as wasn't having any gearbox issues, smooth changes in every gear no rumbles or whines, the bolts from the inner cv joint flange to intermediate shaft failed no threads left in holes, (was new in November) and came with new bolts. When it all failed there was a thud and felt like gone over something(doing 10mph) stopped looked under and nothing there, cdnt see shafts due to under tray, got back in to set off and had no drive, whilst waiting for recovery realised cud put into gear without clutch whilst engine running so initially thought clutch had failed. When removed box took out the little half shaft and small chunks of metal followed it out. Clutch looked fine as replaced 15k ago but replaced it as matter of course.

You say you previously fitted a J&R driveshaft and intermediate shaft- did you renew the gearbox stub shaft at the same time as the intermediate shaft? The usual reason for changing the intermediate shaft is because of worn/ sheared splines which affects both the intermediate & gearbox stub shafts, and results in loss of drive.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

Yes I changed all three together . When it was stood running with no drive and could put in gear without clutch there was a really loud chattering coming from the gearbox. The intermediate shafts are quite poorly constructed had three under warranty, where the shaft goes through the flange it's then held with 3 spot welds these welds brake very quickly resulting in a bit of play and a slight clunk on take up of drive, put a ford one on this one has a continuous weld round hopefully will last a bit longer. I do do a thousand mile a week so wear these parts out quite quickly. Cheers

The bits of metal that came out when you removed the stub shaft- were the splines on the stub shaft mashed? That shaft engages in one of the side gears of the differential and if you've lost drive most likely the splines on the shaft were mashed up, though it's usually the external splines that fail where the intermediate shaft engages with it, not the ones within the transmission that mesh into the diff!

The stubb shaft was ok the bolt that goes through it into the gearbox came out as soon as I removed the intermediate shaft with the part it bolts onto still on there with other mashed up pieces of metal I have replaced the stubb shaft a few times already when that had failed as do high mileage. It was definitly the gearbox faulty.

Must have been one of the pinions in the diff that let go then, or the retaining bolt worked it's way loose and the resulting play/ vibration in the gearset caused it to self destruct. At least it's sorted now!

Yees it's running great again touch wood new turbo, just needs new pipe from turbo to intercooler was hoping to find used one as ford want Ã,£220. pipe got damaged that's what damaged turbo casing, straightened pipe best poss to refit but doesn't quite seal at the turbo end so new pipe getting ordered on Monday and fingers crossed back to normal thanks again for assistance everyone. Cheers

I have an equal problem, slight slack, huge noise in the center of the car and vibration, new transmissions of skf, is it really from the intermediate shaft?
