The rev counter on my Galaxy has stopped working, and it is not changing up into top gear! Local mechanics think I should change the transmission fluid. Having read the manual the suggestions here are that the Electronic Control module (ECM) or the transmission Control module may be faulty. Any help?

If the rev counter has stopped working then that would be an indication that the ECU isn't able to compute the actual rev's and probably the cause of the shift issue. The 2.3 is a Ford lump and gearbox so an OBD2 reader should recover any fault codes stored, you might also try looking at the older Ford Scorpio forums as they share this engine and, afaik, gearbox.
