Mk1 rear heater blowing cold

I have had no heat at all from the rear heater for sometime now, the aux heater is working (though that is another story).

I can't help thinking that the rear heater matrix might be full of air since it is higher up than the pipework that feeds it, but
I can't see anyway of bleeding it.  Is the flow pressure meant to be enough to push the air through? I don't think my model has the electric water pump for the rear end.

I took the small return pipe off the top of the expansion tank and ran the engine in case it was blocked, just a small flow came through, the pipe was removed and blown through but found to be clear as was the spiggot going into the tank.

Any other thoughts on this?

Ian

Feel the coolant pipes by the N/S rear wheel arch, are they hot or cold?

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

The pipes are were hotish after driving 7 miles, aux heater not on.  I have previously run the aux heater which has increased the heat output at the front but still blowing cold at the back.

I you think it is unlikely that the rear matrix is full of air then maybe the flaps are stuck on cold?

I have never seen the rear heater, how difficult is it to gain access to?

Ian
